BLUE HERON

16 EYED

We're having a great time here, but because the garden is small, there isn't all that much farm work to be done. As a result, we're helping Happy with other things that need to be done around the house.

This morning the three of us cleaned out a bedroom in the basement so Happy could rent it out. This room used to be her office HQ so the amount of papers, files, and fliers laying around were staggering. Another thing that was staggering is that every single electronic device in that room, including fans, radios, lamps, fax machines, routers, and dehydrators had its electrical cord snipped. Literally all of these things were destroyed. Who would do such a thing? During the past year and a half, Happy has really only been here, coming and going, for about two months since she was on the road doing many speaking tours and promoting Raw Spirit. In that time many people have lived here and she never even met all her tenants which makes it is impossible for her to figure out who the culprit is. We thought of one thing that could be worse: going into someone's closet and cutting off all the right sleeves of every shirt a person owned. Both these actions are whimsically malicious yet seriously disheartening.

Raw vegan or not, Jen is still trying to make desserts. The other day she made a coconut/carob fudge which we topped with an avocado whip and fruit. Tasty. Today she tried her hand at making a pecan pie without baking it. First, we both cracked what seemed like a million pecans. Aaron was the pecan-cracking master and saved the day when Jen cut her thumb and drew blood after cracking so many. Aaron persisted and got the 3 necessary cups of nuts needed to make the pie. The pie had a remarkably similar consistency to a baked pecan pie and the crust was almost better than a baked pecan pie crust. Unfortunately we don't have a photo because the pie suffered a minor accident and looked a bit deformed. Ted, a housemate, opened the freezer door to get ice and the pie fell out from where it was setting, and the nice design of pecans on the top was ruined. Still tasted good though.

  1. What's the story behind all those eyeglasses? And how was the pecan pie crust made? We need details, details, details!
