BIODYNAMIC PREPARATION COMPLETE

GOOD NEIGHBORS MAKE GOOD FENCES

ARROWHEADS ERIC UNEARTHED

Southern hospitality is for real. Everyone in Tennessee has been so warm, so welcoming, and so generous. We woke up at Jeff's today and Randy already had breakfast cooking on the wood stove. We ate fried eggs and home fries together. Jeff, Randy, Jen and Aaron all joined hands for a moment before eating. Not quite saying grace, but a moment of giving thanks to some spirit or being somewhere for the food we were about to enjoy. We did enjoy it. Jeff always removes his glasses while he eats.

This afternoon we helped Jeff with one of his biodynamic preparations. He had to put lots of snow over one particular brick in one particular area of his garden, and we spent quite a while building a large snow man that turned out pretty cool. It was the most unique snow man we ever made. We then bade our goodbyes, and headed off to visit Nashville.

Driving west at sunset the day after a snow storm was trying on our eyes, but we safely arrived in the city. We tried to go to recommended restaurants but had little luck, so instead came to Sulphur Creek Farm upon Jeff's suggestion. Sulphur Creek Farm is in the Nashville city limits, and sits on a proposed piece of land for commercial real estate development. The local community wanted to thwart to the corporate campuses and banded together to fight for the land with a third option. This led to the creation of an organic garden named Sulphur Creek Farm that Jeff helped set up. Jeff taught Eric, the farm manager, how to maintain the new garden. We were assured we'd have a place to stay at Eric's house. We arrived to an enormous dinner party with over 15 guests at the main house, adjacent to the guest house Eric resides in. The moment we arrived we were offered cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. It was like walking into a family party, and we instantly felt at home among the southerners. Southern women drink whiskey on the rocks. Dinner was fantastic, and tomorrow morning's indoor hot shower promises to be a dream. Eric is an amateur archeologist and has discovered numerous arrowheads in the area. We also learned more about biodynamics from him tonight.

We hope to spend the morning exploring the downtown area of Nashville, then it's off to Georgia for a few days.

  1. This is starting to sound a little more like a honeymoon we could actually go on! Indoor plumbing and some drinks - perfect!
