EARTHQUAKE LAKE

ENTERING YELLOWSTONE

With no extra time to spare, we woke up early and hit the road. We had to make it to Yellowstone before sunset tonight and it was absolutely imperative that we stop in Missoula, Montana to hit up their weekly farmer's market for some more camping rations first.

Crossing the border from Idaho into Montana, we returned to Mountain time. 100 degree weather and cloudless skies greeted us as we arrived in Missoula. The farmer's market was fairly large, with at least 20 vendors. We did our usual: walk around the entirety of the market and observe offerings and prices before going on round two for purchasing. We left with: carrots, broccoli, spinach, yellow summer squash, zucchini, fresh salsa, sugar snap peas, five pounds of cherries, and bok choy and we also enjoyed a coconut bubble tea to cool us as we meandered through the market. Every farmer's market is different and some offer more than fresh produce, namely live music and prepared foods. The live music in Missoula was a lovely addition to our time spent strolling around the market. We drove around Missoula briefly to pick up some last minute supplies before heading southeast. We quite enjoyed the city and are glad we were able to check out a Montana metropolis.

As we cruised out of town the skies grew dark and heavy with storm clouds. We drove through three separate thunderstorms and witnessed some massive bolts of lightning. Our brief time in Montana is unfortunately a harbinger of the time we'll spend in many other states as we traverse the Midwest. We're going to be back in Montana for half a day next week as we leave Yellowstone and head off to North Dakota. We'll enlighten you more about the greatness of Montana next week, once we figure out what it is, but for now we'll just whet your appetite: Montana has only one US Representative.

We set up camp at the Madison campground inside Yellowstone National Park before sun fall. Despite our displeasure of setting up our tent amidst the hum of dozens of RVs, we enjoyed a lovely dinner and are excited to explore this massive park over the next few days.
