SATURDAY IN THE PARK

DEEP DISH
Our number one reason for visiting Chicago was to go to Wrigley. The Cubs will be on the road next week as we drive through Illinois (again) so we had to stop this weekend to catch a game at the famed ballpark. The stadium is old, and many seats have obstructed views as a result of beams and overhangs. Lucky for us, we had a full view of the infield, but did lose sight of the ball when it was hit out to Center, on a high pop up, and in the farthest corner of Right Field. In keeping with the tradition of the past 100 years, the Cubs lost. Losing the whole way, they made it a game in the ninth, loading the bases and cutting the Reds' lead from three runs to one run, but with two outs Marlon Byrd struck out swinging to end the game. Oh Cubs, maybe one year.
The other thing we had to do whilst in Chicago was eat deep dish pizza. Friday night Mike Meegan, our gracious host, took us to one place in his neighborhood, Pequod's. It was ok, but we were looking for mind blowing deep dish. Following the game we went to Gino's East, a quintessential deep dish pizzeria. At 4pm, we waited nearly an hour for a table, and then another 45 minutes for our spinach pizza. It was saucier and better. Good as it was, pizza you have to eat with a fork just doesn't seem like pizza to us. We'd choose New York style thin crust every time over deep dish but when in Rome...
